Dietitian approved: Mush Overnight Oats
This week we tried out Mush Overnight Oats, and are now big fans! Specifically, we tried the Vanilla Almond Crunch Flavor and there are quite a few reasons why we are recommending this product. For starters, the company’s mission relates to our own emphasis at Ellen Byron and Associates on minimally-processed whole foods eating. The company’s mission at Mush is to, “help people maximize their potential by enabling them to feel, think, and do better.” Their website states their products are, “Plant-based, protein-rich, good fiber, gluten-free, dairy-free, artificial flavor & color free, preservative-free, filler-free. Less than 8 natural ingredients. No artificial anything. Health like you’ve never experienced.” It is also difficult to find products similar to Mush that are not high in Added Sugars. Your typical instant oatmeal can contain high amounts of Added Sugar and can easily trick consumers into believing they are making a healthier purchase. The Mush Vanilla Almond Crunch contains 0g of Added Sugar and has only 7 ingredients. The ingredients in the Vanilla Almond Crunch flavor are simply almond milk, rolled oats, date, almonds, pure vanilla extract, sea salt, and lemon juice concentrate. All ingredients you can read and identify which is all the better!
Some other things we like about the product are that it is a good source of fiber, with 5g per serving. The oats also have 7g of protein and contain a good amount of calcium, iron, and potassium. The Vanilla Almond Crunch flavor was very good, and the brand also carries other tasty flavors such as strawberry, blueberry, coffee coconut, apple cinnamon, and double chocolate. The cost of this product is about $2.50 for each cup and can be found on Amazon, Whole Foods, Wegmans, and Hannafords. Some ways you can make this breakfast even more enjoyable, filling, and nutritious is by adding some fruit, nut butter, or seeds!
