Prebiotics
What are prebiotics, anyway?
Prebiotics are found in our gut and intestines, and they stimulate the growth of good colon bacteria! The growth of this bacteria has been found to greatly benefit long term gut health. They are non-digestible for humans, but they are essential for a happy and healthy gut.
When the "good" bacteria in our intestine begins to ferment, this makes the prebiotics create compounds that help to repair injuries to the gut, and they prevent harmful inflammation that can lead to stomach distress.
So how do we incorporate prebiotics into our diet?
Foods like bananas, steel cut oats, and beans are rich in prebiotics, and can be made into delicious meals! Here's a recipe for Caribbean Avocado Soup that is high in prebiotics and delicious!
