Rice Pilaf For Every Season

About the Recipe

Pilaf can be made with any grains and using whole grains like brown rice or barley provides more nutrients than a white rice pilaf and can be customized for any occasion, season, and preference!

Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp olive oil

  • 1 cup grain

  • 1 cup aromatic

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

  • 1/4 tsp dried Chile flakes

  • Protein of choice

  • Vegetable of choice

  • 1 3/4 cup chicken broth, vegetable broth, or water

Preparation

1. Heat about 1 tbsp olive oil in an ovenproof skillet or pan over medium high heat.

2. Add your grain and aromatics until gently toasted and fragrant

3. Add herbs/spices and cook for a few seconds

4. Nestle in the protein and vegetables so they're evenly distributed. Some ingredients may need to be partially cooked first.

5. Add the liquid and bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer and cover.

6. Transfer to the oven and bake until the liquid has been absorbed, the grains are tender, and the other ingredients are cooked. Cooking timing will vary with each grain.

7. Remove from oven and let sit undisturbed for 5 minutes, then uncover, fluff gently with a forks. Fold in any of the finishing touches.

8. Serve Hot
